So in these, the last days of unemployment, I was lucky enough to book another student film that's shooting on Friday. I'm pretty excited, because these guys seem like they really have their stuff together, and I get to work with a couple of actors who apparently do lots of theater in Seattle. Get paid for it, even. And I've been told that improv is welcome, which is terrifying, because unlike noted thespian Jessica Alba, I'm not particularly good at making things up as I go along. Heck, I think part of the reason I got the job was because I was the only person to definitively commit to coming to the audition. And I brought my headshot, which the directors were thrilled about, because they needed to put it in a frame as a prop.
It reminds me of a conversation that I had with another actress, where she said that she ended up getting a lot of gigs based on her ability to show up, prepared, do her thing, and not be difficult. Of course, it took time to build her reputation, but now she can actually pick and choose among projects to be involved with, and it only took about two years. It may not be as flattering as beating out dozens of hopefuls, but it's kind of sweet in its own way to reap the rewards of just showing up.
